"Every time I face a new project, I try to listen to my intuition and search for the connections between its themes and my own creative universe, my imagery, my roots. This is what happened when I got the chance to do Electra for Spain's national ballet and I envisioned her story in the rural, traditional, deep Spain which has inspired and fascinated me since I was a child. Even though its argument is more than two thousand years apart from us, its visceral quality and its aesthetic beauty had a magnetic effect on me, leading me to our own Spanish, Mediterranean popular culture. Dreaming of bringing dance and the choir back to the place we imagine them occupying in classic tragedies as a meeting place for ideas and emotions, Electra, beyond styles and disciples, represents to me the continuation of the creative path I chose as a choreographer years ago. Electra is a human and sensory experience where movement, space, light, music and shape are all part of a whole".
